Ostrich Plumes

Feathers from the Ostrich are not only supplied as large blousy feathers. They can also be seen in Ostrich Plumes. A delicate piece of the Ostrich Feather mounted on a paper coated wire. An ideal decoration to include in a bridal bouquet or as a hat feather. With 12 feather "picks" per packet these are an inexpensive alternative to a floral decoration.

Diamond Feathers

1482 The most common feathers used in the design of your hat and bridal decorations are the Stripped Coq or Diamond Feathers. These are simply feathers stripped of their plume except for a small amount at it's tip forming a diamond. This is available either in natural diamond feathers or dyed diamond feathers. The dyed feathers come in a large range of colours. Refer to our colour chart.

Many of our feathers come on picks, so they can be easily incorporated into craft or bridal designs as well as hat decorative ideas, and can be used on a range of products, from headdresses and centrepieces to crafts and card making. Most commonly used feathers in craft and favours are things like our fluff feathers, also available in cut fluff feathers, along with narrow feathers and ruffle feathers. The feathers which are usually used for hat and hair accessories, are things like our pheasant feather curls, fern feathes, and wild feathers

.

Table and floral centrepieces are often finished off nicely using feathers to add some colour and texture to the displays. Arrow feathers, and ostrich arrow feathers are often used, depending on the height of the arrangement along with stripped ostrich feather quills and our dyed, natural, and sword peacock feathers.

We also stock some fun and colourfull feathers like our jeweled feathers, fine feathersand pheasant feathers, and also we have some natural quinefowl quils and plumage.

Hat Feathers

There are so many different types, shapes, sizes and colours of feather products available here, were confident we’ll have a feather for almost any purpose. Obviously with hat feathers you will be looking for different designs, depending on the type of hat, and where you will be wearing it, but whether it’s a wedding hat, fancy dress, or just general wear, they’ll almost certainly be something to inspire you on our site.

If you are looking for feathers to decorate a wedding hat, you will probably want something small and delicate, like our natural or dyed diamond feathers. Also we have the more defined small feathers like out fern feathers or our diamanté diamond feathers to add that sparkle to any hat. We also have narrow feathers and pheasant feather curls which can be used in a more bold design.

Fancy dress and theatre hats can be overdressed to the max if required using some of our most extravagant feathers, like our miniature prime ostrich or our jewelled feathers. We also have fluff feathers and peacock sword feathers which would add a splash of colour and texture to your design.

For everyday wear, you would probably use a more understated range of feathers for your hat decoration. One of the more popular are the fine feathers as these are still quite large and colourful but aren’t as fancy as some of the more fluffy feathers. Generally our guinea fowl quills and plumage also work well with the more natural styled hats.

Feathers in Floral Arrangements

Most of our feathers come in a large range of colours and are the perfect way to add colour and texture to your table arrangement or bouquet. You may even consider combining something like a confetti feather, or marabou feather to put in the vase with artificial flowers to create an interesting display.

If you are planning to use feathers in floral arrangements and bouquets, you would probably need to wire the feathers, depending on the particular feathers, so they can be incorporated more easily.

We do have a range of both bulk or retail wire packs and tapes which can be used to wire something like the marabou or even mini prime feathers.

If you are using a pre-wired feather like narrow feathers, or fluff feathers, you may still need to add some more wiring to them. The wired stems are only about 10xcm long and if you are making a large display you may need to extend them.

Palm Tree effect Arrangements

premium

Some people choose to eliminate the flowers all together and use just feathers to create a bold yet stunning display. The most common design for this is the ‘palm tree’ effect, where you would use a tall lily vase and number of ostrich feathers along with something like our stay soft product to secure the feathers into the vase. Often a ribbon is also used to tie around the top of the vase and cover any of the stay soft which may still be on display.

The amount and type of ostrich feather depends on personal taste. Generally we recommend anything between 9-15 feathers per arrangement. We also offer three types of ostrich feather. The Spadone, which is the most commonly used feather. These are between 20-24’ long and come in the widest range of colours. The Byock, which can measure up to 20’, so this is a little shorter but has a softer look and is only readily available in white and cream. The premium feather, which is a femina wing. These are the most extravagant, luxury feather which is unfortunately also reflected in the cost. These feathers are 20-24’ long and are exceptionally high in quality, they are much fuller, with a soft arch in the ends of the feathers.

We do stock such a wide range of feathers, picks, trims and boas, that it’s best just to have a browse through our feathers section.
