    Buttonholes/ Corsages

A corsage is a small, usually floral arrangement which can be attached using either a selection of pins or corsage magnets. Corsages can also be attached to wristlets so they don’t have to be pinned to clothing.

Corsage magnets are used as an alternative to pins and are used when you don’t want to make pin holes in delicate materials. Magnets are not recommended for people with pacemaker heart support devices for obvious reasons. For an unusual decorative corsage magnet, consider the filigree cone corsage holder.

Wrist corsages are quite a popular alternative to the traditional corsage and often crystals, beads and ribbons are now incorporated into the designs to create a stylish, modern accessory. These are more often worn to dances and proms although they are also becoming more and more popular for weddings as well as the same ribbons etc can be used as for the wedding to help incorporate the whole theme.

The corsage is a keepsake for all the special female guests from the wedding to take home to remember the event, especially handy when artificial flowers are used, it is the tradition that the corsages should match the bridal bouquet in colour and design.

The flower used in the grooms buttonhole should be taken from the bride’s bouquet to signify unity and comes from the days when a night would wear his lady’s flower.

Generally, buttonholes are created with one large flower and a small amount of foliage. These are available pre-made as in B1432, or can be made by your florist. The most common flowers used for corsages are roses, orchids, lilies, and gerbera, with waxy foliage like ivy, bear grass and sometimes fern.

Basically, whatever theme/style you have chosen for your wedding, there are always a number of different designs and accessories which can be incorporated into your corsages to tie them in with the rest of your day, from feathers, crystals, beads and ribbons, to the actual flowers themselves.

If you do choose to make your own corsages and buttonholes using fresh flowers, carnations and roses are the most popular. They are generally easy to make, although you will need some basic florist sundries: Stem tape, Pins, magnets, Corsage holders Or any decorative feather, crystal and ribbon products you choose to incorporate.
